On April 15th, volunteers and students gathered together to make good in Shanghai! As a part of the Good Deeds Day global movement, Good Deeds Shanghai 2018 focuses on the environmental protection issue. This year, our green action took place in beaches and university campus.
552 volunteers participated in the beach cleanup action during April 15th, covering areas of Nanhui Zui and Fengxian beach. Not frustrated by the windy weather, volunteers picked up 2800 pieces of trash, weighing 800kg in total.
Making good is still going on, the following week filled with campus recycle booth in 6 different universities in Shanghai. 129 volunteers from these universities helped organize the events. 606 students joined the green action as they donated their empty shampoo bottles, clothes, books and other waste otherwise which would be thrown away. 712 pieces of waste were recycled, weighing 146.18kg. Through practice and booth education, students gained a better understanding of sustainable development and individual’s responsibility under the current environmental challenge.
With the rapid social development, our environment is faced with many challenges. Everyone should be a part of this green movement as we shared this planet. Maybe you can prepare a recycle bag, maybe you can take public transportation. Name it. Every small change counts. So just take action!
Be the change, volunteer!
