“Tianci Tang was a freshman when I first saw him, now he already started working. He is the team leader of heart medical center. His tanned face, diligent figure during beach cleanup is still in my mind.”

My first volunteer experience with HandsOn Shanghai was in Fudan Children’s Medical Center, and while I cannot remember who was the team leader at that time or what was the exact activity that day, the memory of happiness and a sense of close connection are still strong in my mind.
Every time when I saw little babies and kids in the activity, I sincerely hope that they would recover soon. In fact, sometimes I feel disappointed as I sat on the metro on my way back home, “have I changed anything for these children?
I only interact with them for two hours, do I really have a deep understanding of their feeling?” With these questions and doubts, I talked with another volunteer who served different program. We shared the feeling that this may be enough when we brought a bit happiness to those sick children in some way. If there is something that can carry on spirit, I think volunteering should be one of them.
Support by the joy I feel when volunteering, and knowing that I am able to brighten the day of children, I have become a team leader to help provide support for the program.
