Migrant Education Projects

Science Teaching Project
The project aims to teach upper grade students from Shanghai Migrant Schools the knowledge related to Science. Volunteer teachers will teach topics related to Physics, Chemistry, Environment, Astronomy etc, through lively experiment and games.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of education at Shanghai’s migrant schools
  2. To build a systematic Science project in school that enabled growth and development of student interests
  3. To develop teacher capacity and encourage retention within the school

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for team-works volunteers.
  2. Every class (for 20 students) need a team of 2-4 teachers.
  3. Bi-weekly teaching schedule to one stable class.
  4. The teaching time is from 10:00-11:30 (Sat)
  5. Project opens in the school according to our plan.(ref to project calendar)

Health & Sanitation Teaching Project
The project aims to teach lower grade students from Shanghai Migrant Schools the knowledge related to Health & Sanitation. Volunteer teachers will teach them different topics by grade.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of education at Shanghai’s migrant schools
  2. To build a systematic Health & Sanitation project in school that enabled
    1. Growth and development of student interests
    2. Awareness of normal knowledge of Hygiene
  3. To develop teacher capacity and encourage retention within the school

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for team-works volunteers.
  2. Every class need a team of 2-4 teachers.
  3. Monthly time commitment to one stable class.
  4. The teaching time is from 10:00-11:30 (Sat), Need to commit one semester.

English Teaching Project
The project aims to teach English to students of Grade 4 in Shanghai Migrant Schools. Using curriculum developed by professional, volunteer teachers need to conduct the lesson systematically following up the teaching plan.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of education at Shanghai’s migrant schools
  2. To build the long term English project in Shanghai that enables growth and development of student interests and confidence through accomplishment
  3. To develop teacher capacity and encourage retention within the school

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for individual volunteers.
  2. English curriculum will be provided by Hands On for children ages 10-11.
  3. Each class requires two teams (2 teachers per team). Teams will rotate bi-monthly.
  4. Volunteers may choose to teach on Tuesdays OR Saturdays for the weekly lesson. The teaching time is from 10:00-11:30 (Sat) or 14:00-15:30(Tue)
  5. Commitment is needed for at least one semester; First Semester: September – December, Second Semester: March to June.

Shutterbug Club Project
The project aims to teach students in Shanghai Migrant Schools using digital camera to capture beauty in life. Besides learning simple photography skills, the program is a way for children to express themselves.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of education at Shanghai’s migrant schools
  2. To build the long term photography and art project in Shanghai that enabled
    1. growth and development of student interests
    2. Built confidence through accomplishment
  3. To develop teacher capacity and encourage retention within the school

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for team-works volunteers.
  2. Every class need a team of 3-4 teachers.
  3. Team commitment to one stable class. The teaching time is from 10:00-11:30 (Sat)
  4. Need to commit one semester. Totally 6 classes.

English Drama Club Project
The project aims to teach students from Shanghai Migrant Schools to performance drama in English. Volunteer teachers will teach them basic performance skill and direct a drama inside the student group.

Program Goals

  2. To build the long term English Drama Project in Shanghai that enabled
    1. Growth and development of student interests
    2. Built confidence through accomplishment
  3. To develop teacher capacity and encourage retention within the school

Volunteer Needs

  2. Every class need a team of 3-4 teachers.
  3. Bi-weekly time commitment to one stable class. The teaching time is from 10:00-11:30 (Sat)
  4. Need to commit one semester.

Rising Star Project
This project works to embolden and encourage underprivileged youth by providing meaningful relationships with caring adults outside children’s families.

Program Goals

  1. To develop and foster long term relationships between the youth and volunteers
  2. To develop long term ties between volunteers and society
  3. To provide role model, mentor, emotional support role for disadvantaged children

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for team-works volunteers.
  2. Need a team of 10-15 volunteers to match with the same amount of students
  3. Monthly time commitment from 10:00-13:00 on Sat.
  4. Need to commit two semesters, totally 8-9 events

I CARE Project
This project aims to carry out attention to volunteers and students on 4 main topics. When embolden and encourage underprivileged youth by providing meaningful relationships with caring adults outside children’s families, interesting activity is designed to achieve the goal.

Program Goals

  1. To bring the attention into caring about the elderly so as to care about the format of family.
  2. To bring the attention into caring about their education which leads to thinking about their future.
  3. To bring the attention into caring about the animals so as to care others feeling.
  4. To bring the attention into caring about the environment protection and to find solutions into everyone’s own life.

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for team-works volunteers.
  2. Need a team of 10-15 volunteers to take the same amount of students out for event.
  3. Monthly event from 09:00-13:30 on Sat.

Basketball Club Project
The project is designed to provide professional basketball training opportunities and a children-centered environment to the students in Shanghai Migrant Schools and help them have the opportunity to grow in both character and sports ability.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of education at Shanghai’s migrant schools
  2. Growth and development of student interests
  3. Develop students of healthy character and built confidence through accomplishment
  4. To develop teacher capacity and encourage retention within the school

We are currently looking for Trainer and consultant of basketball club and Curriculum Design and Development Team Members.

Badminton club Project
The project is designed to popularize the game of badminton and contribute to physical fitness for the students in Shanghai Migrant Schools and help them have the opportunity to grow in both character and sports ability.

  3. Develop students of healthy character and built confidence through accomplishment

Library Project
This project helps the school to build up a library and assists running in operation and most important for this project, is design to broaden the view of the students, lead them forming the habit of reading by providing interesting books, organizing different reading activities.

Program Goals

  1. Build up a cozy and environmental friendly reading space to the students
  2. <

  3. Assist School operate the library efficiently
  4. Organize volunteer involving activity to make fun and meaningful

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for individual and team-works volunteers.
  2. Reading club needs volunteers to go monthly on Sat to read for children
  3. Event based activity needs volunteer travel to YUNNAN

Education Assistant
The team is the supporting team as coordinators, team leaders, project developer to the Migrant School Education Program, in which we have a lot of different projects like Photography Club, Science Teaching, Sports Club, English Drama etc.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of education at Shanghai’s migrant schools
  2. Improve the project quality and support HOS to a better implementation.

Volunteer Needs

  1. Open for individual volunteers.
  2. Outing leader EA need to coordinator on site, organize games and lead the whole event on monthly basis in one semester.
  3. Class monitor EA need to coordinator on site, guide the experiment, observe the lesson conducting by group volunteers on bi-weekly basis in one semester.
  4. Project designer EA need to work soho on projects design assigned by HOS
  5. English teacher EA need to teach in migrant school for one semester, see notice below.
  6. Reading Club Tutor EA need to go to migrant school library to conduct the reading club monthly. Need commitment for one semester.
